Buying office furniture can be fun for some and a ball of confusion for others. Putting together a personal home office within your first house can be exciting but having to refurnish an entire company building for its workers can become a daunting task. No matter what the needs are with some basic guidelines and understanding buying office furniture can be a breeze. Here are some tips for finding the best furniture that is fitting your needs and personal demands.

The main piece of office furniture is a desk and understanding the styles and functions is the best place to start. Knowing what you or others will be using the desk for will narrow down what exactly you need. If you will be behind a computer most of the day you will need a computer workstation. If you use a fax and scanner often you will need more room on the desk. If you spend tons of time doing paperwork behind the desk you will need the room and a filing system. If you must constantly be grabbing books and references you will need shelve space. Spending time to understand all the functions a desk must fulfill before hand will make the shopping experience much less stressful.

While the function is probably the most important element to consider when shopping for office furniture it goes in hand with placement. If the piece of furniture will not fit in its intended space then it will not work. There is nothing worse than not being prepared and finding out after set up that the piece will not work for the room. If you are just using part of a room as an office then take the measurements of the area you intend to use. For partial rooms such as living rooms or spare rooms a corner desk may be the best options for saving space without compromising function. If you will be devoting an entire room to the office than your options are likely to be limitless, and you can think larger.

The final thing to consider when buying a desk for office furniture is the style. Of course this is subjective and probably the least important factor but everyone wants things to look good and fit with the broad style of the area. In the past office furniture was quite bland and generic but today the options for style are endless. There are mainly styles in wood with different finishes and grains for a classic look. If a more modern look is desired then check out some of the amazing metal desks, which can add originality at a great price. No frills are what you require then there is plastic office furniture to keep you on budget. A last style to consider is resinite office furniture, which can give the expensive look of classic wood pieces but at a much cheaper cost.

When looking for any office furniture you can follow this simple guide of buying a desk. First consider the function that the piece is needed for and what it’s purpose is. Next make sure to take measurements and look at the space to assure its placement is suitable for the room. Once these important questions are answered have a little fun with the experience and check out all the different styles you can choose from. Adding a personal touch to an office while meeting the needs of function will keep all that important work organized and efficient while keeping the space from looking mundane So go check out some catalogs or hop online and start planning your perfect office with functional and stylish pieces that will fit right in!

Despite their being advantages to working at home and not having to travel into the office everyday, working from home can be just as much hard work, unless you have a dedicated area in your home for an office.

Are one of those people that works in the kitchen whilst the kids are having their breakfast, constantly telling them to be quiet whilst on the mobile phone at the same time? If that’s you then you probably fall under the “work from home” category. Working from home does have its advantages, theirs the comfort of being able to stay in your Pyjamas, avoid that annoying sales person who calls you every Monday afternoon or simply just feel more relaxed in your own environment.

For those who love nothing more than working from home we would strongly advise separating your office from your home and invest in some home office furniture items such as computer hideaways which can be hidden away in the corner of your home office until you need access to the PC. Regardless of how big your office space at home is, with a bit of clever planning you could create a very efficient working space that doesn’t upset the rest of the household.

When creating your home office working space think about what YOU want and forget all about the standard office look, the cheap desks and uniform pencil pots, be different, its YOUR home office space no one else’s. The more comfortable you are in your space the harder you can focus on your work, its a proven fact.

A well thought out home office plan can give a fantastic first impression to those visiting you at home not to mention gives you more of a professional edge for when you need to impress your clients. A mistake that many people make is trying to squeeze too much into a small space thus creating a crowded and messy office, it is recommended by architects that you should free up at least a 10ft x 10ft area for your home office. If you are not able to commit that kind of space then do ensure that you have sufficient room for all of your equipment.

Most importantly before you go out and actually buy anything, measure your walls and double check with the office furniture supplier that the sizes on the website or printed on the spec sheet in the store are 100% correct, there is nothing worse than buying all your home office furniture to find that you took a wrong measurement and have to send the whole lot back!

Top Office Furniture is open for business 24/7.

With approaching 1000 office furniture products currently listed on the website, we will continue regardless to seek new and affordable ideas just like our sister website, Working Chairs, with an office furniture range second non.

Our initial aim was to get as many and wider range of office chairs onto the site as possible, this we have managed, then to compliment the chairs with a reasonable selection of office desks, we feel we’ve managed that too for now.

Also at this early stage, a good selection of mobile pedestals, desk high pedestals, bookcases and filing cabinets are available too. So whats next, oh theres lots… not only adding more to the above, but also we have massage chairs, tables, storage and…well the list is endless.

The end result, our mission, is to offer a comprehensive range, whilst keeping our prices competitive and offering a enviable customer care service.

We at Top Office Furniture are always seeking to maintain a good policy on environmental issues. In addition to continually looking to improve our stance on these areas of modern business etiquette, we are also just as determined to continue with the basics. In our efforts to be of help to others, not just in the business of retailing office furniture as we do, but businesses from all areas of industry and retailing, we will cover a few basic yet useful tips that are both easy to consider immediately for those of you who want to get on board environmentally, and we hope that is everyone.
If we can encourage each other to improve on the green issues, it won’t be long before it snowballs into something really effective as everyone else climbs aboard the environmental ship. We list ten typically important ones here…
1) Recycle your paper and ink toner cartridges. It couldn’t be simpler could it? To make it easier, most local authorities are helping by providing bins for your recycled paper and offering special collection days. As for the ink cartridges you can pass those back to your supplier for refills or exchange.

2) Reduce your energy costs by ensuring all equipment and lights are turned off that are not in use and also particularly while the office is closed. Heating should be thermostatically controlled and on a timer so that unnecessary burning of fuels isn’t done during the night or at weekends for example. If you have the need to keep anything running when the office or buildings are empty, work on a plan to keep it to the bare minimum.

3) Use energy efficient lighting, this is so easy as with most green issues, and these lights are cheaper in the long run too, it’s a no-brainer really.

4) Use environmentally friendly cleaning products, again labels on these products tell you all you need to know here, get into the habit of reading them and learning which products are not going to cause any damage to your environment and are easily bio degradable for example.

5) Use conference calls rather than travel to meetings, again this is also cost effective for you as well as the environment. What’s more, you can avoid those hugely frustrating and expensive traffic jams.

6) Use a green energy supplier, shop around and read their policies, if we all pull together and choose only those showing positive actions, the rest will also see it is necessary to get involved.

7) Adopt water reduction practices, don’t leave taps running, set the toilet cistern to fill up less and with this in mind, it has long been an idea to place an object in the cistern such as a brick to take up some space thus saving water on its refill.

Use suppliers who are environmentally active. Whoever you purchase your goods from should be showing efforts to be environmentally active.

9) Encourage others to follow our stance, by getting started on these issues everyone can easily consider themselves involved. Then it simply gets so easy to maintain and grow your involvement into something that is really productive and helpful for doing your bit in the cause for a better planet.

10) Have an environmental policy? If you can write a plan, stick it on a notice board, encourage comments and ideas from fellow staff members and keep to a strict policy it not only works, it will be rewarding too.

The team at Top Office Furniture, will keep looking to help the environment and we will seek business to business
relationships with others who do the same.

Much of our office furniture range has now been certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council and a full chain of custody certification has been made available.

The FSC is an independent, non-governmental, not for profit organisation established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests. The FSC Principles and criteria describe how the forests have to be managed to meet the social, economic, ecological, cultural and spiritual needs of present and future generations.

They include managerial aspects as well as environmental and social requirements. In fact, FSC rules are the strictest and FSC’s social and environmental requirements are the highest.

The Top Office Furniture website has now added a superb range of tub chairs, armchairs and sofas
from the Metro seating range.

This excellent visitor and reception furniture is constructed from a rubber wood frame which is both robust and the
most ecologically friendly timber available at this time. This wood is stained to a popular mahogany finish which
compliments almost any decor options. The hard wearing faux leather upholstery comes in a chocolate brown with a
contrasting white stitch detail. The complete range has fire retardant upholstery

The new Enviro Leather means quality and innovation for our customers which remains the main focus of our sales. We care about the impact our business has on the environment and recognise that our customers also share this value. Good stewardship of the environment in which we operate continues to be an everyday focus, from both manufacturing operations overseas to the materials used to produce our chairs. We, through our suppliers, have enhanced our ability to make a positive impact on the environment by introducing the ‘Enviro-Leather’ range of bonded leather chairs. Enviro-Leather is made by bonding tannery leather fibres which would otherwise go into landfills. This process is used to create high quality products with environmentally friendly recycled content.

How is bonded leather made?

Genuine leather cuttings from factories and tanneries are recycled to manufacture an environmentally friendly material. This innovative leather-fibre material has been named ‘Enviro-Leather’. It is manufactured with specific properties which make it look, feel and even smell like leather. Another benefit of using Enviro-Leather is it is more durable and hardwearing than natural leather, it is also more cost effective.

Bonded leather is produced in a similar process to paper manufacturing. Leather scraps are dispersed in water and are shredded and milled by special grinders to free the leather fibres. Mixing these fibres with natural latex binders and other additives, a leather fibre pulp is produced. The pulp is then continuously poured and processed on a web, which is then dried and reduced to a uniform thickness. The surface is then embossed with a grain to make it look like natural leather and finally a polyurethane coating is applied to give a soft feel and rich colour.

Top Office Furniture are proud to be introducing the new Enviro-Leather to our comprehensive range of modern office chairs.
